McConnell House Homecoming honors its history

By Portia Williamsportiawilliams@civitasmedia.comWURTLAND, Ky. — The doors of the McConnell House in Wurtland, Ky., were recently opened for what will be regarded by many as a monumental event —- the first McConnell House Homecoming held at the historic location on Sunday, Sept. 21.The Heritage Arts, Science and Tourism Center (HASTC) hosted the McConnell House Homecoming, welcoming all people who have ties to the historic house through past ownership, or slavery, to share their stories and family history.Franklin D. Harris, Jr., of Portsmouth, whose family is affiliated with the McConnell house through his great, great, great, great-grandmother Rachel McConnell, said he enjoyed being a part of the homecoming immensely.
